April 2, 2010
For Immediate Release
Springfield, MO - Drury University students are partnering with the Skinny Improv to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect in the Springfield community by hosting Comedy for CASA’s Kids on Wednesday, April 7 at 8:30 p.m. in Clara Thompson Hall on the Drury campus.
Proceeds from the event will benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Southwest Missouri. Admission is $5 at the door or $3 in advance. Tickets can be purchased at CASA’s office located at 1111 S. Glenstone.
"I was shocked when I first learned the extent of the child abuse problem in our community,” said Drury senior and event organizer Katie Harman. “The event we are planning will help CASA spread its message and raise much needed funds for kids. We want to fill every one of the seats in Clara Thompson Hall."
The Comedy for CASA’s Kids fundraiser is part of CASA’s month-long campaign to spread awareness about child abuse and neglect.
CASA uses community volunteers to advocate for Greene County’s foster children.

December 31, 2009
For Immediate Release
Springfield, MO - Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Southwest Missouri has been awarded a grant from the Jewelers for Children (JFC).
The $5,000 grant will be used to increase the number of volunteers who represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in Greene County’s Juvenile court. The award is part of a $500,000 grant that JFC made to the National CASA Association.
Jewelers for Children is the charitable arm of the jewelry industry, composed of jewelry retailers, manufacturers, watch companies and trade associations. They are one of the largest private supporters of the National CASA Association, supporting volunteer advocacy since 2003. The National CASA Association is one of JFC’s two “super legacy charity” partners, along with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Across the country, nearly 70,000 highly trained CASA volunteers serve as powerful advocates for over 240,000 children per year. In Greene County, CASA of Southwest Missouri serves approximately 250 children each year who are in the foster care system due to abuse and neglect.
